It is a lung disease. It reduces the capability of the lungs to expel air. This function is done by the natural rubber band type or elastic property of the lungs. It is caused by tiny airways in the lungs. They are called as bronchioles. It results in the development of air sacs and the obstruction of air flow. Bronchioles block the airways and hence more energy is required to ventilate the lungs. It may be caused due to constant smoking. Thus breathing becomes very difficult and strenuous. It worsens as the disease develops.
