Faux basically is a French word for fake. It is commonly used in phrases like faux pearls or faux Fur. Faux items and materials are generally made in an effort to resemble the limited item as closely as possible.

Where as the opposite theory of purposely making the articles look "faux" is also quiet famous, like in the cases of a faux furs, where it is projected that the potential buyers want their fur to be known as faux fur. This is done because of the controversy over the production of real animal furs.

The faux substance is manufactured in many different ways, like faux marble is commonly produced with marble dust in a plaster binder, which eventually develops into a hard material that can take polish.

Faux is a word that originates from French. It is used to define something which is made to resemble something else. Phrases which are commonly associated with the word faux are faux fur, faux pas, faux pearl, faux finish, faux leather and faux amis. It is pronounced as fo. The original French word faux means false, fake, artificial or an imitation (of something else).

In wall covering, the word faux is used to refer to designs that imitate actual textures which are commonly used as wall coverings, such as marble and wood. When something is said is to be faux, it means that object is similar in appearance to another object. A faux object is not genuine. In other words, a faux object is a fake object. It is basically used to describe a finish which looks like something it is not. In other words, it is a simulation of something else.
