The term 'subversive', when used as an adjective, means serving or intending to subvert; in particular with an intention to oust or undermine an already established government. It is also extended to describe one who opposes a civil authority or government. When used as a noun it would refer to a person who is an advocate of, or who is considered as advocating subversion. In this sense of the term it is often used to describe a radical campaigner of a political revolution or a social one.

Synonyms for the term subversive would thus include the words revolutionary, revolutionist, insurgent, seditious, sub-versionary and sub-verter.

The adverb form of the word subversive is subversively, while the noun form of the same is sub-versiveness.
