The word pyro is generally used as prefix. It has a Greek origin. Pyro is used to describe something related to fire. Fire means pyr, in Greek language. But as a noun, it could mean a person who has a compulsive behaviour to set fires. Such a person is also called pyromaniac. A comic character in X-Men series who is a mutant with the fire-controlling power is also named Pyro. In pyrotechnology, the aluminum powder is used to obtain white flame and brightness. This powder is termed pyro.

As a prefix, words like pyrotechnics and pyrokinetics can be obtained. Pyro kinetics is similar to the manufacture of fireworks. The flames and explosives are used creatively for special effects. Pyrokinetics is described as the ability to manipulate fire.
