The word mezzanine is used to define an intermediate level between the floor and ceiling. It occupies a part of the floor space. It is also a strategy employed in the investment of funds. It involves subordinated debt, hence the name mezzanine. Subordinate debt is a term that is defined as the level of financing which is higher than the level of equity debt, but is lower than the level of senior debt.

In a theatre or a cinema hall, the mezzanine is the first level, which is also known as the balcony, which is located immediately above the orchestra. It is also known as the dress circle. In a building the mezzanine is the floor (or the storey) which is located just above the ground floor. It occupies all or a part of the floor area of the building. It has columns, beams, joists, deck panels and edge trims to get the reinforced concrete.
