Bloc may be defined as a group of states, nations, persons or parties that unite for common action in a particular situation with a definite goal in mind. In other words it is a special alliance between two or more nations. It could also mean a bipartisan coalition of legislators that act jointly because of some common interest or purpose.
During the course of the Cold War between the USA and the USSR between 1945 and 1990 the Soviet Bloc or the Eastern Bloc referred to Soviet Russia and its satellite nations like Rumania, Poland, Hungary, East Germany and Czechoslovakia. A group of voters that vote together for the same candidate or political party is called a voting bloc. There is also a music band called Bloc Party. Bloc is also the slang for a boulder from the French term faire du bloc.
