Stoic is the name of a philosophy. It is also known as stoicism. A flower of the stoicism philosophy is also known as stoic. It is a Greek school of philosophy founded by Zeno. The followers of this philosophy believe in accepting your destiny and thus achieving happiness by not worrying about the happenings in life. A stoic is a person who remains unmoved by anything in life and seemingly remains unaffected by both pleasure and pain. Thus stoicism teaches indifference to pain and suffering.

This philosophy was very popular in the Greco-Roman Empire, particularly among the educated elites. A stoic or the follower of this philosophy learns self-control, fortitude and detachment towards material things and bonds. They find peace within themselves by schooling their passions and desires as they believe that passion tends to distort truth. The stoics were generally very logical and rational and thus they opposed prohibitions, customs and traditions and were very critical of superstitions and taboos which were very much prevalent in the society during that time
