Phlegmon refers to the spread inflammatory reaction to infection. It occurs especially in the connective tissues and leads to ulcers or abscess. It forms purulent or gangrenous lesion which in turn lead to the creation of multiple pockets filled with pus. It is usually connected with pancreatic phlegmon.
It is a complication of the pancreas and results in a solid mass of inflamed pancreatic tissue. Most of them subside immediately but if they don't then they become infected and produce a pancreatic abscess. It affects the subcutaneous connective tissue.
