The full form of TIFF is Tagged Image File. It is a file format which is mainly used to store images which includes snaps and line art. Initially created by the Corporation Aldus with the help of Microsoft for the basic purpose of Post Script printing, TIFF is a famous format for high color resolution images. This format is widely supported by applications like Photoshop, GIMP, you lead Photo impact, Paint Shop Pro etc.
TIFF was initially formed in an effort to make desktop scanner vendors to agree on one simple file format, instead of each company having its own format. Earlier TIFF was designed as a bi-level image format, as that was all that the entire desktop scanner could take.
Later on as scanners developed more and the hard disk space increased, TIFF grew vastly to support grayscale and later color images.
