N.A.S.A is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, it is responsible for the American space programme and put the first man on the moon.    N.A.S.A was founded in 1958 as part of what became known as the 'Space Race' againt the Soviet Union or USSR.     The global prestige that the Soviet Union has achieved by putting  both a dog on November 3rd 1957 (called Laika) and a man (Yuri Gagarin)  into space was immense.  There are a great deal of pressure on the U.S.A to put a man on the moon, which they eventually did on July 20th 1969, when Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon, speaking those immortal words 'one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind'.    Other significant events in NASAs history were the crippled rocket Apollo 13's return to earth and the tragedy of the Challenger Shuttle which exploded on launch.    The pilot's last recorded word was 'Uh-Oh', as he realised there was a problem.    NASA has summer programmes and internships for those interesed in gaining experience.

As an acronym N.A.S.A stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration which is a U.S Government agency in charge of the country's public space program. It may also stand for the National Auto Sport Association, which is a motorsports organisation based in America. Founded in 1991, this organisation seeks to promote road racing as well as high-performance driver education.    Alternatively, NASA could stand for a number of other things, especially various associations and organisations including National Association of State Archaeologists, National Autograss Sports Association (based in the UK), Native American Student Association.     It could also stand for Nice And Safe Attitude (UK), Nyenrode Alumni Summer Academy and Nyenrode Alumni Summer Academy.
