Apparently it comes from the old name 'Ap Lake' who was one of King Arthur's knights. They moved to Ireland and during the famine alto of the Blake family moved to America and a lot to England. There are also links with the name Caddell. I wish I knew more. My surname's Blake too!

It comes from England and is an alternate spelling of the surname Black, for people who were dark-haired or had dark complexions.
