When we are talking about solutes and solvents in chemistry, “like dissolves like” is an important principle that relates to the polarity between the solvents and solutes. By polarity we mean the force that exists between tow molecules. Like dissolves like basically means that a solute will dissolve well in a solvent that has a polarity quite similar t its own. This facilitates the dissolution process; this is helpful as it provides a rough idea about which solute will dissolve in which solvent.
