My name is Janae and I am 49 years old. I never met or heard of anyone with my name until I was well into my forties and even then, they were all at least twenty years younger. I too thought my name was French, but when I was visiting in Paris, France, I had the opportunity to inquire about my name and was told that they could not identify my name as truly French. They said that the pronunciation was familiar but the spelling was not and to be truly French...it would be spelled Genet with a soft g and silent t. (By the way....Genet is a flower that the French use to scent perfumes.)
About ten years ago I found that Janae is in fact Hebrew and means "God answers" or "God replies" which makes more sense to me than the more common claim that it is English, Welsh or American as just another derivative of Jane or Janet. But then again.....there could be a connection since Jane means God is gracious and Janae means God replies---and it certainly is a gracious of God to reply to our prayers.
