A ditty is a simple song. Usually it is a poem which is transformed into a hummable song with a lilting tune. People also refer to ditty as dits (slang). There are millions of songs which can qualify as a ditty. Songs like "three blind mice," "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny, Yellow Polka Dot Bikini," "sing-a-song of six pence" are some of the examples of ditties. A ditty is not necessarily a nursery rhyme; it can be a popular pop song or ballad too. The melody which springs from a ditty can make you break into a jig.

A ditty instantly connects with the listener and has a fun element in it. It can educate, entertain or just bring a smile to the listener's face.
