I agree completely with the above answer, as it refers physically. In psychiatry, it refers to being overly concerned with keeping control and refusing help and suggestions. It also refers to someone (rigid) as unwilling to change, even if the person knows change will better his life. Examples: control freaks, "my way or the highway" thinking, etc.

Rigidity means the physical property of the human body that tends to be stiff. It also refers to inelasticity, inadaptability. It literally means the lack of physical flexibility.

Rigidity also refers to a term that exists in medicine. It s basically described as an augment in muscle tone, which in turn leads to a resistance to unreceptive movement all the way through the assortment of motion.
