Bateren is the old English word for batter. It is called as batre in old French and originates from the Latin word battuere. Maim, mangle, maul and mutilate are some of the synonyms of bateren. Bateren or batter is a noun and it means to hit badly and continuously and deliver violent blows. It refers to physical abuse. It means damaging something by beating it hard and repeatedly.
