Canicula is another name for Sirius. It is the brightest star in the sky at night. It is located in the Canis Major constellation. Canicula is also known as the Dog Star or Sothis. It has a magnitude of minus 1.47, and is apparent visually on a clear night-time sky.

It is a system that consists of two main stars. In other words, it is a binary star system. The main star is a dwarf star. This star is bluish-white in colour. It is accompanied by a white dwarf. It is one of the star systems that is visible from every inhabited continent on the surface of the earth (Antarctica is not an inhabited continent).

It cannot be seen by the people who live to the north of the latitude of 73.284 degrees. In the northern hemisphere, Sirius or Canicula is known as one of the vertices of the Winter Triangle.
