Sunder is a word that originates from Middle English word sundren which itself was derived from the Old English word sundrain. Sunder is the splitting or the cracking of anything due to the application of either force or a strain or a blow into two or more pieces. It may refer to breaking, or shattering, or smashing, or fracturing. The other related word is sunderance.

Another meaning of Sunder is that it is a fictional character as a mutant in the Marvel Universe. The character was created by Paul Smith and Chris Claremont in the Uncanny X-Men. Sunder was the founder and a member of the Muir Island X-Men and the Morlocks. He was later killed by the invaders who invaded the island.
