Myopia is the proper term for nearsightedness or short-sightedness; that is ametropia wherein parallel rays converge to a focus just in front of the retina; as a result vision is better for objects that are near than for those that are far. In this refractive defect, distant objects appear hazy. The adjective form of the word myopia is the term myopic.
The term myopia, in the general sense of the term may also be extended to describe a lack of foresight or of discernment. It would mean a narrow view of something. In this sense of the term it may thus also be used to mean short-sightedness, but in the figurative sense.
