The term fovea refers to a small pit or depression in a bone or a structure. The fovea, also referred as fovea centralis, is a section of the eye, situated in the centre of the macula section of the retina.

The fovea basically is accountable for sharp central vision. This sort of vision is essential in human beings for the function of reading, watching TV or movies, driving, and any motion where visual factor is of main significance. The fovea is enclosed by the parafovea belt, and the perifovea external section.

The parafovea is the in-between belt where the ganglion cell coating is formed of supplementary five rows of cells.
