Embroidery refers to the art or act of embroidering; it means ornamentation of cloth and fabric using needlework. It also means embellishments that are full of fanciful details.

Embroidery is a very old art form which involves the use of a needle and thread to decorate and ornament textiles. The most popular techniques of embroidery are crewel work, quilting, and cross stitch. Embroidery can be found on rugs, framed pieces of cloth with elaborate pictures and designs, clothes, robes and shawls.

Most old cultures have shown some form of embroidered art including the Red Indians, Egyptians, Chinese, Persians and Indians etc. The embroidered work that comes out of Afghanistan and Kashmir in India is so fine that they start to lose their eye sight at an early age. Embroidery plays a very important part in eastern cultures with most dresses showing some form of embroidered designs.

Embroidery is the art of decorating a material using thread and needle. Embroidering of designs can be done through bare hands or with the use of modern sewing machines. The availability of modern embroidery machines, computers as well as embroidery digitizing software makes its possible for embroiderers to easily set up intricate logo these days.

I wonder about all the pieces of art made with embroidery techniques. I recently started to collect rugs. Well, my collection is not large now. I have some contemporary rugs from the DLB gallery in NYC and I also got some rugs from my grandparents. I know they were made in another way but it stills deserves attention.
