Bilious is a word used to describe excessive secretions of bile. It is used when somebody is suffering from a liver disorder or gastric distress. Therefore if a person has indigestion or is irritable then he is said to be bilious. It is the adjective form of bile. Bile is a greenish-yellow fluid found in the most vertebrates. It is very bitter and is secreted by the liver.

A person suffering from this condition is likely to vomit and it would be greenish in colour. It aids digestion but its excessive secretion can cause indigestion thus giving rise to situation that is described as bilious. A person having an extremely bad temper is also called bilious. Thus this word in English is used to denote a nasty person or situation.
