Africa is the second largest continent in the world. It covers 6 percent of the total surface area of the earth and 15 percent of the world's population.

There are a number of stories behind this name. Most of the historians agree that It has been derived from the word Afri. Afri was the name of several people in North Africa near Carthage. The meaning of this name is either Phoenician word Afar which means dust or from Berber word Irfi which means Cave.
