Blitz is a German contraction for lightning ("blitzkrieg"). It refers to the way German soldiers moved swiftly when attacking foreign troops in their conquest of Europe during the 2nd World War. They would "blitz" the enemy soldiers and take over the country. A "blitzkrieg" was to move Lightning Fast.
