There are two meanings. In the first, a sack basically is a strong bag made out of coarsely women material, made especially for grains, potatoes of coals. A bag is usually used as a container to store or hold something.

Bags generally are non-rigid, and are made from paper, cloth or from any other flexible fabric. A bag usually has one to two handles, or at times not handles at all. A bag can be closed by a zipper or at times plainly by folding it. Bags which are used for travel or transport money come with locks. Sachets are fabric bags which are packed with pot pourri and are tide off with ribbons.

It is said that the term bag came from the Norse term baggi. Bags normally vary in sizes and shapes.

Second meaning : If someone is given the sack or sacked, then this means that they have lost their job !
