Constantine means steadfast or constant. It is derived from the Latin word constans.
It is pronounced as KAHN-stan-teen.

The form Constant was very popular among the Puritans especially as a virtue name. However without question the most famous namesake of Constantine was the illustrious Constantine the Great. He lived in the fourth century and is credited with being the first monarch in history to make Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. The city of Constantinople is named after him.

In addition there are an astounding eleven Byzantine Emperors with the name Constantine. It was also a common royal name in Greece. There were also three Scottish kings called Constantine all of whom lived in the medieval Scotland. The Russian Tsars in a bid to prove that Russia was the new home of Christian orthodoxy also used this name Constantine.
