What I have found is that the name parker is not of English origin. According to sources, it is an old English name with history dating back to the old Anglo Saxon tribes of Britain. The name is an occupational name that was given to people who were employed as ‘park keepers’. Some of these parkers were actually responsible for large grounds as they were employed by the noble men to take care of their estates. Later on the name was adopted as a surname and the first family to have been found with this name was the parker family living in Derbyshire. The motto of the family was ‘to the faithful there is reward’. Many families moved from one place to another and the name parker could have gone to Germany with any immigrants.
To the previous answer - in the very first sentence you said the name is NOT of English origin. And then in the next sentence you say it is an old English name and for the rest of your answer, you go on to further describe it as having a very English origin. Whats up with that? -
by the way, my last name is Parker, so I'm just looking around at stuff.

Parker is ancient and I believe to be of Norman origin, thus Viking/French!
