Pollen is at times referred to as, although not correctly, flower sperm. It is basically a fine or crude powder that is constituted of micro-gametophytes, which generate the sperm cells, called as (male) gametes of the seed plants. Every pollen grain consists of vegetative cells and on generative cell which has a tube nucleus as well as a generative nucleus. This cluster of cells is enclosed by a cellulose cell wall and another thick outer wall that is made out of sporopollenin.

Pollen is generated in the microsporangium. Pollen grains are found in various different shapes and sizes. Majority of pollen grains is spherical in shape. The transmission of pollen grains to the female reproductive organs is called as pollination. This transfer mostly takes place with the help of wind.
