What Does Stability Mean?

The word stability is obtained from the word stable. Stable connotes firm, solid, durable or strong. This state of being stable is termed stability. Stability expresses resistance to change or displacement. This use of the term is applied to chemical solutions or other substances that are likely to undergo deterioration or change. Constancy of character is also implied by stability. For example: something had disturbed the stability of his mind.

An aircraft or ship resumes its original position or equilibrium after being by displaced by sea waves or strong winds. This ability of an aircraft or ship is described as stability.
