The word reeve has its origin in Old English word gerēfa. In Canada, reeve is the President of a town council. He is elected through a vote. Reeve is a minor officer of a parish or any other local authority. During the late medieval period, the steward of a manor was also called reeve. He served as the superintendent of workers or tenants. The Anglo-Saxon kings used appoint an officer to look after the administration of the state. This high officer was called reeve.

A female ruff or a necklace is termed reeve. Reeve is also used as a verb. When someone passes a rod or a rope through a hole or a ring, he is said to be reeving. You reeve something by passing it around or through something else. You do this to fasten that thing.
