A queue refers to a line of people in waiting. It may also refer to a line of vehicles. It may be used as a noun as well as a verb. For example, "there is a long queue outside the ticket counter" and "people will soon queue up outside the ticket counter".

The origin of the word has been traced back to the year 1837, in Britain. The word queue is derived from the French word queue which in turn has been derived from a Latin word which means 'tail'.

The queue is also the name of a particular hairdo that was worn by the Manchus of middle Manchuria located in China. This hairdo basically constituted of the hair on the front of the head being shaved off right above the temples with the remaining hair braided or plaited into a long pigtail called as a queue.
