The Paleozoic Era was there about 543 to 248 million years before. The word means Ancient Life. This era was basically the one of the three earliest geological eras. At that time, there were six major continents that formed the land masses. Africa was at the South Pole and North America ran west an east of the equator. There were incursions of the seas and there were large projections of limestone. There was also coal which were in the Western Europe. These deposits of coal and limestone were formed during the Paleozoic era.
The Paleozoic era is defined as the earliest era of the geological period which is known as the Phanerozoic Eon. It was characterised by the presence of a variety of species of marine invertebrates, fish, amphibians, insects and land plants. It pertains to the phanerozoic aeon. The phanerozoic aeon is defined as the geological period which extended from about 590 million years ago to about 245 million years ago. The actual period began about 544 million years ago and ended about 249 million years ago.
The word Paleozoic literally means the time of ancient life. This era is further subdivided into the Permian era (from about 286 million years ago to about 245 million years ago), the Carboniferous era (from about 360 million years ago to about 286 million years ago), the Pennsylvanian era (from about 325 million years ago to about 286 million years ago), the Mississippian era (from about 360 million years ago to about 325 million years ago), the Devonian era (from about 410 million years ago to about 360 million years ago), the Silurian era (from about 440 million years ago to about 410 million years ago), the Ordovician era (from about 505 million years ago to about 440 million years ago), the Cambrian era (from about 544 million years ago to about 505 million years ago) and the Tommotian era (from about 530 million years ago to about 527 million years ago).
