Liber is the name used for a man. It is derived from the Latin word "liber" which means "liberated." Incidentally, Liber was also the name of the Roman God of fertility. Liber and his queen Libera had a religious sect on the Aventine Hill, Rome, with the Roman goddess of Agriculture, Ceres. The festival called Liberalia in Rome, held on May 17, is dedicated to the couple Liber and Libera. The festival celebrates the coming of age of boys as they mature into manhood.
Liber also refers to the inner part or bark of trees. The liber comprises of a good amount of fibrous, woody cells. No wonder, the part from which the fiber of the plant (hemp) is derived, is called the liber.
