Ermine basically is an Old World weasel, also known as a short-tailed weasel or wild otter. It is basically a tiny mammal from the Mustelidae family.

It is an opportunistic carnivore and grows up to approximately 30 cm. It survives on rabbits, rodents like mice, vole, rat and other small mammals. They even eat small birds as well as their eggs, at times fishes, reptiles, amphibians and even invertebrates. It is an expert at climbing trees and can move down a trunk headfirst, like a squirrel.

It is proficient of killing animals which are much bigger in size. When it gets more meat than it can consume, it stores it up for later. They are generally found in northern temperate, sub arctic and arctic areas like Europe, Asia, Canada and United States.
