Apartheid was the policy of racial discrimination followed in South Africa between 1948 and 1994. A government of white people was ruling the predominantly black South Africa. Though apartheid is no more the official policy of the South African government, it still impacts politics and policies of the country.

A rigid policy of segregation of the nonwhite population and also applies to any system or practice that separates people according to race, caste, etc. Under Apartheid, racist beliefs were enshrined in law and any criticism of the law was suppressed. Apartheid was a system dictated in the minutest detail as to how and where the large black majority would live, work and die. This system of institutionalized racial discrimination defied the principles of the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Apatheid means segregation, preferably of countries such as racial segregation like civil war but an argument solved by separating people in a country, like when the British Zimbabweans were sepearated from the black africans before Nelson Mandella came out of jail.
Also in restaurants and things.
