I asked my geordie boyfriend the other day, apparently it means something similar to 'go on my son'.

So like, if a geordie gets a new car, another geordie will say 'why aye man!'

It's an encouragement thing.

This is not true. If someone did something that required appraisal a geordie would say 'Mint' or ' Get in,' The term ' Whey aye, man,' means ' Well of course,' or ' Well, yes,' and can be said in a sarcastic way for example " Can you do a triple somersault?," " Whey aye," or a sincere way, for example " Can I smoke in your house?," " Whey aye, man," Hope I helped :)
