Meaning is subjective; i.e it is not fixed, but depends on the person who is giving meaning to something. For example the meaning of the bible will be very different to a jewish person than it is to a christian and even more different to a hindu; even though the words that are read are exactly the same.     The meaning one gives to something will depend on their own experiences; what they have been taught and what they have learnt and often, what meaning they want. If one is asked to discuss a tree for example, think of the different answers that might be given by a child, a biologist, an ecologist, a tribesman and a woodsman and numerous other people.
