This plant possesses a bulbous centre and juices can be extracted from this centre resembling a pineapple. These juices contain various types of sugars and starches which are used in the making of tequila, an alcoholic drink.
Firstly this pinas are collected, cooked at a certain temperature and mashed. This procedure leads to the secretion of the juices in the bulbous centre which is collected and then undergoes fermentation. Later this fermented liquid is distilled and purified for further use. This centre usually weighs around 40 to 70 pounds. To produce 1 liter of tequila almost seven kilos of raw pinas are needed. This agave pina is also known by the names of cabeza which means head or corazon which indicates a heart.
