Essential may refer to many things:

The first very well known as something that is important. For example if one is cooking a chocolate cake then they essential ingredient would be cocoa. Essential may also refer to essential property, which defines a unit as being a meticulous type of unit. Aristotle was the first to identify and distinguish between essential and inadvertent properties of an entity. An essential property of an entity is that, if missing would mean that the entity would not mean that type of entity.

Essential also refers to an album by the Divinyls and also refers to as a essential line of reprints by Marvel Comics.
