A foreword is a piece of writing which is placed at the start of a piece of literature such as a book. A foreword is placed before the introduction of a book or any other other piece of writing and is written by someone who is not the author of the book.

A foreword will always have the signature of the person who wrote it placed at the end of it. The foreword basically explains how the idea for the book came about and various other details about the book.

The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook always has a foreword, which is usually an author explaining his or her experiences of writing and often includes the author explaining how the Writers' and Artists' Yearbook helped them.
