A caisson is a military term for the vehicle that carries artillery ammunition. Caisson is a French term. The Britishers called a caisson a limber. A caisson is big box that is mounted lengthwise to an axle and has road wheel at each and every end. Firmly connected to the middle area of the axle is a pole which is connected to each side, this setting is used to harness a horse, Thus making it a very basic vehicle that can be moved by horses.

A caisson can also be a vehicle that carries coffins for funerals. These caissons are also used during the funeral of the presidents of the United States; they carry the coffin of the deceased president. In Britain it is used in the same way for a state funeral.
