Conductivity is the power or ability of a material to conduct or transmit heat, sound and electricity. It is also used as part of physiology and concerns the ability of nerves to carry instructions etc.

Perhaps the word is most used in terms of electricity and heat. Materials are classified on the basis of their being either good or bad conductors of electricity and heat. Most metals are good conductors while non metals are bad conductors of both heat and electricity. Bad conductors are used to insulate and contain the flow of electricity all around us. Copper being an excellent conductor is most used in wires where as rubber a bad conductor is used to insulate the wires. Electrical conductivity refers to a measure of the ability of a material to conduct a current of electricity.

A synonym of conductivity is the word conduction.

The degree to which a specified material conducts electricity, calculated as the ratio of the current density in the material to the electric field which causes the flow of current. And the Scientific definition for the conductivity is the rate at which heat passes through a specified material, expressed as the amount of heat that flows per unit time through a unit area with a temperature gradient of one degree per unit distance.
