The terms nation and a state are often used interchangeably to denote each other but there is a distinction between the two. State is a political term. It indicates the self governing identity of the governance. On the other hand a nation has different meanings. It consists of a group of people living together and sharing a common culture. It is a tight knit group. A nation-state has the same boundaries as that of the state.

A nation state is specific in nature. It is a different form of state. An ideal nation state is not possible in the real world but it indicates a nation where its every resident identifies with it and is a permanent member. No member of this state resides outside it and none of them have any affiliations to any other nation or state.
