Sudoku, pronounced expressively as sue doe koo with not much emphasis on any syllable word is Japanese for single number, but could also mean 'to one singularity or soul'. It has much in common with its younger relative, the crossword. It may seem amazing, but Sudoku precedes the crossword by over two hundred and twenty years! Leonhard Euler, a Swiss mathematician produced the world's first Sudoku puzzle in 1783 and named it Latin Squares. Since then, Sudoku always had a dedicated number of people playing it, but did not have mass appeal. In the 1980s an American publication pronounced the puzzle as Number Place, bringing it to the public eye. Japanese puzzle publishers Nikoli picked up this idea and gave Sudoku its appellation. You do not require knowledge of mathematics to crack these clever little puzzles. Logical reasoning and patience is all you need!
