There are two possible explanations for the surname Buchli.
The Swiss family from the Safiental in the Graubunden canton had a coat of arms with a small Beech tree on it - in German Buche is beech and Buchli means little Beech.
The other story relates to a family that are now called Beighley.
They are reputed to have been protestants in the North East of France and were awarded the name of Buchli because they had used the Bible (a book or Buch) in German to withstand pressure from one of the local overlords.
