Chapel is a place of worship that is used as a substitute for a church. It refers to an alcove or chamber within a church itself or in a separate location. This place it set apart for worship. This word is commonly used in England or Wales to be more specific. Many non-Anglicans Protestant church usage in England and many ordinary catholic churches are known as chapels. It is a word derived from the Latin term Capella which indicated a small cape.    An oratory i.e. A space that is dedicated for celebration of services but not a parish church is known as a chapel according to the Catholic Canon Law. It may be private or public in nature. This word in the modern terminology also refers to an event according to the Protestants. Some of the important chapels are Brancacci Chapel in Italy, Capella Paolina in Vatican City, Lee Chapel in USA, Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland, St. George Chapel in United States and several others.
