Scissors is the name of an edge tool. It has two crossed pivoting blades. It is used as a cutting instrument. It is similar to shears and resembles it but for the fact that scissors are smaller in size and it has two cutting blades with handles. A scissors is operated with the assistance of a pin in the centre of the blades that holds them together and makes it movable.

It is also called a pair or a pair of scissors because it cannot exist without two blades. Only one blade would be a knife and not a scissor. Scissors can work only when both the blades move simultaneously towards each other with the help of the pin in the centre. It is used to cut paper, fabric and other materials.
