It is a place name. Named after Aspen, Colorado - but the origin is actually from Middle English, and refers to the Aspen Tree.

My daughters name is Aspen. She is very cute and a terrific athlete. We love her name and she does too.

The name aspen is an English name for a female, which simply means 'aspen tree', originally derived from an Old English word.    Aspen is also the name of a city in Colorado, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Roaring Fork River and is located at an altitude of 7907 feet. Initially it was thriving silver mining industry but deteriorated at a rapid pace after silver prices came crashing down. It was revived as a ski resort towards the end of the 1930s, and is today a bustling tourist hotspot. It has become an affluent and fashionable holiday destination and boasts of cultural festivals like the Aspen Music Festival and the U.S Comedy Arts Festival.    Famous former or current residents of the town include Kevin Costner, Michael Douglas as well as Jack Nicholson.

My daughters name is Aspen Clare St.Francis. I absolutely
love the name. Her middle name is Clare because that's the name of my husband's
best friend who died of leukemia his Senior year of high school and her first
name is Aspen because that was my husband, Austyn's, favorite place. Austyn and
I would always head there for vacation when we were in college. We married when
we were 21 (I know, a bit young) and had Aspen but two weeks before she was
born Austyn was killed in the 911 attacks on the North Tower in an office
building. It was a very hard time for me and I still grieve today. The name
we'd chosen for my daughter was supposed to be Rosella Clare but I changed it
the day she was born. We moved out of Manhattan when she just turned 7 because
we were stressful living in a big city and moved to Madison Wisconsin. It's
much more pleasant here. But that's the story of my baby girl Aspen. <3
