Leap year is basically a year that comprises of one extra day, week or month. This is in order to keep the calendar year synchronized based or with the help of astronomical or seasonal year. A year which generally does not comprise of any extra day is known as the usual common year. The best example for the leap year in the month of February one would generally see 29 days instead of the usual 28 days.
A person generally born on the 29th day of February is known as "leapling". On other usual years their birthday would either be celebrated on the 28th of February or even on the 1st of March.

A leap year is when the calender catches up for the four 1/4 days per year in a four year period. It is on February 29th that the calender makes that adjustment. This happens because there are 365.25 days to a year. That is how long it takes the earth to make one cycle around the sun.

Leap year means that one extra day is added in the month of February which is 29 instead of 28. Earth revolves around the sun which takes almost 365 and 1/2 day, the half day is  added after four years to maintain the calendar.

Every four years we add a leap year because each year you really have a quater of a day more than the 365 days so a leap year is 366 days. Each day is a little longer than the 24 hours. This is because it takes longer to circle the sun than 24 hours. The tilt of the earth changes so days seam longer day light. The best we can do is this extra day every four years. The maya had a better calander, but this used solar time, luna time and was very complicated. So february being only 28 days it is given 29 days. The calander was change after the it was not correct in 1545.we were days off. So the Pope had someone work on it. This is very interesting. But it is simplely that we do not circle the sun as we think 24 hours.

The Earth circles the sun once in every 6 hours 9 minutes 9.54 seconds. This means that every 4 years an extra day is added to compensate for the extra 6 hours, 9 minutes and 9.54 seconds. Of course, this is actually a little too much, so occasionally (once a century) the leap year is cancelled. Even this is not perfect, so every 400 years the cancellation is cancelled. :)

Leap year is the special year where it occurs once in every 4 years... Usually a year has about 365 days but leap year has 366 days. An extra day is added to the shortest month of the year i.e February. Birthdays falls on Feb 29th is very special where, they can be celebrated once in 4 years...People who are born on February 29 are called as "leapers". About 4.1 million people around the world have been born on Feb 29th...
There is an interesting calculation in finding the year whether it is leap year or not with four simple steps.

Leap year -  you already knows that the Earth around with 365 days and 1/2 means 4 hour extra that mean that , Look at now

365+4= 1 yr so ,
  in four yr later total number of hour 4+4+4+4= 24 [ means one day increase }
so, lead yr is not for 1 yr but , it works on at 4 yr.

A leap year is a year that has February 29th - an extra day in that month and it only comes every 4 years. Technically every year has 365.25 days, so to make up that time, every 4th year, we have an extra day. The term leap year is used to denote the jump that we make to have that 366th day.
