Glyn is a Welsh boy's name meaning "valley." It is similar to the Scottish name Glen, which has the same meaning. Originally it was a place name, but has often been given as a name to boys since the revival of interest in Celtic culture in the 20th century. It can also be spelled Glynn.

Another place name which has become a popular Welsh patriotic choice is Glyndwr. This is because of the famous Welsh fighter Owain Glyndwr (Owen Glendower in English) who resisted the Tudor Kings' domination of Wales in the late 14th and early 15th century. Glyndwr was given this name from a place name; glyn "valley and "dwr" water. His is still a famous name in Wales, and was the inspiration for the nationalist group Sons of Owen Glendower.
The boy's name Gwyn looks similar, but in fact this is quite a different name, derived from the Old Welsh word for "white" or "holy."
